[Description]
The Day-Date is Rolex's ultimate status watch.
Introduced in 1956, the Day-Date was the world's first waterproof, automatic chronometer wristwatch to display the date and the day of the week in full on the dial.
The case is made of only 18K gold or platinum. It is the only watch with a day of the week display, and the limited use of materials has established it as a top-class watch.
The first model, Ref. 6511, and the second model, Ref. 6611, are characterized by their wedge-shaped hands and bullet-shaped indexes. Both are rare models that were only produced for about a year, so they are rarely seen.
This Reference 1803 is the third generation, and its design features include a stepped-down outer edge of the dial and thicker indexes at 6 and 9 o'clock compared to the other hours.
The "/8" after 1803 refers to the case material; the same model in WG (white gold) is called "1803/9," while RG (rose gold) is called "1803/5."
The dial has a rounded edge, which is a vintage look that can also be seen in Datejusts from the 1960s. The crystal is made of plastic.
The next generation Ref.18038 has a flat dial and a railroad track-like design called a railway circle on the outer periphery. The crystal is also sapphire glass, which is the basis of the current design.
This watch is also known as the "President's Watch." The name originated from when it was presented to the 34th President of the United States, Dwight Eisenhower, and the name became established as it was worn by successive presidents thereafter.
The bracelet, which is also made of gold, is known as the "President Bracelet" and has a strong image of being a "first-class watch worn by successful people and leaders."
You might think that gold is too flashy and looks bad taste, but when gold ages it doesn't look too shiny and it gives off a sophisticated impression.
This watch does not have a president's bracelet, but a black leather strap, so I don't think it stands out as much as I thought it would.
Above all, it's hard to believe that this watch is over 50 years old, as both the case and dial are in such good condition.
It also comes with an international service warranty from Rolex Japan, so you can use it with peace of mind. The case is not polished during service. (We can polish it if you wish.)

About Complete Service
Complete service, sometime called overhaul is the work of disassembling a mechanical product down to its individual parts, cleaning and reassembling it to bring it closer to its new state of performance.
Roughly speaking, the overhaul procedure is as follows.
1. Separate into case and movement
2. Disassemble the movement
3. Inspection and pre-cleaning of wear condition of each part
4. Wash parts with a special machine
5. Lubrication and assembly
6. Waterproof test
7. Final adjustment and running test.
Some movements are made up of hundreds of parts, but it is a very meticulous process of disassembling them one by one, inspecting them all, cleaning them, and reassembling them.
If you don't overhaul, the oil will deteriorate just like a car, and the risk of wear and damage to parts increases, causing a decrease in accuracy and, in severe cases, not working.
There is also the reason that it will be very expensive to replace parts after they are found to be damaged, so we recommend overhauling once every 2-3 years for economical and long-term use.
About Polishing
Vintage watches have been used for decades, and even the stainless steel used in many watches has rounded corners that were originally sharp, and has many small scratches even though the mirror finish should be beautiful. state.
At Arbitro, some watches are sold with a new finish, based on the idea that you can purchase them in beautiful condition and use them for a long time.
In particular, gold-cased dress watches are finished to bring out the best of the precious metal case.
The watches sold by us that have been given a new finish are shot in very high definition, so you can see that the edges stand out and the light is reflected by the mirror finish.
Also, depending on the case or bracelet, there are cases where multiple finishes such as mirror finish and hairline finish are mixed, but there are not many craftsmen who can distinguish between them and finish them at a high level.
In addition, the “thinness of the case” is also a part that is greatly influenced by the skill of the craftsman.
A watch that has become thinner and has thinner lugs is far from its original design, and the appearance becomes unbalanced.
It is a very precise work that brings the case closer to the original finish by eliminating scratches and dents while reducing the thickness of the case to the utmost limit.
Of course, there are cases where it is better to use the watch as it is, in order to emphasize the history of the watch and its original condition.
We look at each watch and judge whether it is best to finish it before selling it.
