-Description
Patek Philippe is a watchmaker founded in Geneva in 1839.
The company makes watches without any compromise by utilizing its overwhelming quality and technical capabilities.
The independence of the family business and the reliability that all watches can be repaired create a value as an asset that can be passed down from generation to generation.
This watch is Golden Ellipse reference 3848.
The ellipse is a fusion of a circle and a rectangle, and the case's aspect ratio (1:1.6181) is the "Golden Ratio," which was discovered by Greek mathematicians and is the basis of its name.
The Golden Ratio, also known as the "Sacred Ratio," can be found in some of the greatest works of architecture and painting to this day.
First introduced in 1968, the Golden Ellipse made a big impact with its design, which was a departure from the round and rectangular cases that had been used until then.
The case material is 18k yellow gold. The width is 28.5 mm and the height is 33.5 mm, which is one size larger than other hand-wound Golden Ellipses, the same size as automatic winding at the same era.
The dial is an ivory dial. It is not the usual ivory, but a greyish shade. The guarantee paper describes as "fond glace ivoire", which translates as 'cold ivory'.
It is a dial color with a stronger image of Calatrava than Golden Ellipse.
In addition, the σ (sigma) mark is on both sides of SWISS at 6 o'clock on the dial.
This is a mark found on watches made by manufacturers belonging to the APRIOR from around 1973 to around 2000, and indicates the use of precious metals such as gold for the dial and indexes.
The purpose of this designation was to "indicate that the watch is of high quality and Swiss made of gold.
It is a specification found on watches made by five companies (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, IWC, and Omega), but not all watches have it.
For this reason, it is regarded as a rarity among collectors.
The installed movement is a manual-winding Cal.215.
It was introduced around 1978 as a successor to the Cal.23-300, a small movement with a size of 10 Lignes (approximately 22.5mm).
It is a very classic thin manual-winding movement, but with modern performance, and is still used in current models such as Ref 5196, more than 40 years later.
A rare set that comes with a certificate of origin paper, sales tag, instruction booklet, and genuine YG buckle.
